In the project RollBatt, cylindrical cells will be further optimized to go beyond the state-of-the-art. Goals are cost reduction by increase of quality as well as battery life and fast-charging capability. This shall be reached by innovative integration of additional functionalities ("Smart-Battery" approach) while ensuring producibility in large quantities. Additionally, production potentials regarding heating behavior and mechanical problems will be addressed. The main emphais of BLB is on cell housing, as well as passive functional elements and process analysis. ZSW will mainly work on cell internal sensors and post-mortem analysis. The newly elaborated knowledge from the project can improve competitiveness with regard to German battery manufacturing.
