Summary of the project:

The central objective of the cross-sectional production platform within the second funding phase of the solid-state battery competence cluster is the development and research of a scalable quality-assured production of high-performance solid-state batteries (SSB). To this end, the consortium is mapping the entire production chain on a small pilot scale, starting from the processing of composite cathodes and separators of the various solid electrolyte material classes using various scalable approaches, through assembly, cell construction and conditioning as well as electrochemical characterization, to an economic as well as ecological evaluation of the complete process chain. The focus of the project is on the industry-oriented investigation and evaluation of scalable production processes with quality assurance as well as the derivation of concrete recommendations for action for the large-scale production of SSB.

Objectives and tasks of iPAT:

• Identification of suitable process windows and technologies for the respective cathode material system
• In-depth knowledge on the targeted formation of the cathode structure with regard to minimum residual porosity and best possible conductive path formation is to be built up and used to optimize the structures while taking production costs into account
• Use of pilot production of SSB cells to work out the process-product property relationships and to build up multilayer development cells
