As a postdoc at TU Braunschweig, you have initially decided to continue your path in science. You make significant contributions in research, become involved in teaching and increasingly take on management and leadership tasks. The postdoc phase offers you a variety of opportunities to develop and distinguish yourself and should be accompanied by strategic planning of your further career from the very beginning. At TU Braunschweig you will find excellent research opportunities, an outstanding innovative teaching environment and, with our distinctly collegial approach, a highly motivating environment for your career.
The early postdoc phase (R2) following the doctorate is characterised by new challenges and should usually last between two and a maximum of four years. In this phase, you make important decisions for your further career. Targeted career planning from the beginning is an important element of this phase. In research and teaching, the phase is characterised by increasing independence and the development of your own research profile by exploring new topics. After two to three years, the direction of further professional development should be clear and the next steps for the further career should be planned.
In this phase (R3), the way is paved for remaining in academia and preparations are completed, e.g. for a tenured professorship or a leading position at a research institution. This includes, among others, habilitation students, junior professorships with and without tenure track, and junior research group leaders. The goal in this phase is greater independence in academic work, a deeper knowledge of the subject and related fields, as well as national and international networking in the community. Moving to comparable positions outside the science system is becoming increasingly difficult. Therefore, a self-critical analysis of one's abilities and expectations of one's career is once again crucial here.

The Network for Research Funding at the TU Braunschweig aims to support scientists in the successful submission of applications. Scientists of the TU Braunschweig with many years of experience - in the areas of committees and applications - are represented in the Research Funding Network. They support applicants of the TU Braunschweig and those who want to come to the TU Braunschweig with their applications.
The Postdoc career grant offers outstanding doctoral students at TU Braunschweig start-up funding for the transition between the doctoral and postdoc phase. Excellent postdocs are thus offered the opportunity to carry out preparatory research work after completing their doctorate and to bridge the time until their own third-party funding application to the DFG is approved.
