Motivation:
With regard
to production of goods and services, constant and global change
drivers such as stagnating supply chains, rapidly changing customer requirements
as well as work-force-shortage require the proactive design of resilient
supply chains as well as production operation. In order to maintain and expand value-creation in such an environment,
manufacturing companies are increasingly relying on information technologies (IT)
with the goal to maximize the use of the company’s resources and employee
qualifications. Such IT solutions, that have become key factors for
cost-efficient operation, can range between full automation of processes and assistance
to workers. Whereas the technical automation of production systems can achieve
throughput times and quality levels that far exceed those of human labor, the aforementioned
challenges additionally require the deployment of human-like skills in problem-solving,
dexterity and cognitive abilities contributing to its’ irreplaceable characteristics
of flexibility, adaptability and reliability.
Approach:
Recent technology releases in the field of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) show significant improvements regarding the intuitive and flexible interaction with data utilizing human language as well as mimicking human-reasoning. This thesis aims to explore the methodologies, concepts and applications to utilize GenAI technolog within resilient production. In this regard, various approaches might be followed that we will discuss. Here is a list of exemplary approaches:
- Methodology to build and utilize GenAI models with regard to information systems in production
- Implement GenAI-based cognitive-digital agents that encompass human-like capabilitites mimicking human roles
