Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Friedrichs has been Professor of Aircraft Propulsion at TU Braunschweig and Head of the Institute since 2010. Since 2019, he has also been spokesperson for the SE²A – Sustainable and Energy Efficient Aviation Cluster of Excellence, which conducts fundamental research on future aviation in collaboration with partners Leibniz University Hannover, DLR, PTB, and HBK.
His personal research areas are the aerodynamic analysis and optimization of axial fans and turbomachinery. In the field of aircraft propulsion, the focus is on propulsion systems, i.e., thrust-generating components and their integration into aircraft design, with particular attention being paid to the interaction between the inlet and fan as well as modern propeller drives. His previous work at MTU Maintenance GmbH has also led to an interest in wear analysis and prediction of aircraft engines in his research.
