The focus of the work is the analysis of fuel cell systems for aviation-related applications, with a particular emphasis on water and heat management. Both the fuel cell itself and the peripheral system components (balance of plant) required for its supply and safe operation are considered. These include components for gas supply, humidification, and cooling for both the air supply on the cathode side and the hydrogen supply on the anode side. The focus is on the simulation-based investigation of operating and design strategies as well as the analysis of transient system behavior in order to systematically assess the effects of load changes and mission-specific boundary conditions and, if necessary, incorporate them into the system design.
