Niraj works on the design of future aircraft propulsion systems with the goal of enabling sustainable and accessible aviation. The primary research focus is on the fan stage design, which plays a key role in overall propulsion system efficiency and integration. The work aims to establish an integrated aircraft–propulsion design approach, with particular emphasis on operation under inlet distortion caused by ingested fuselage boundary layer. Addressing these non-uniform inflow conditions in the turbofan engine is essential for next-generation propulsion concepts. The work is predominantly numerical, bringing together the aerodynamic design of the fan stage using an in-house tool with subsequent high-fidelity simulations for performance assessment, supporting the development of a robust methodology linking aerodynamic design and CFD-based analysis. Niraj actively supports student research projects, especially for those interested in CFD, turbomachinery, and integrated propulsor design.
