The quantitative simulation and understanding of flow separation on airfoils, wings and powered engine nacelles still represents an unsolved scientific problem. Progress can only be made with suitable mathematical models, by using algorithms and sufficient computational resources for achieving numerically accurate solutions. Moreover, high quality experimental data for the validation of numerical simulations are needed. Inhomogeneous onset flow conditions have also moved into the interest of flow research as real aircraft operate in atmospheric environments with sometimes rather large distortions. The symposium aims to bring together scientists dealing with numerical simulations of these flow problems and with experiments for validation. The participation of young researchers is encouraged. The exchange of ideas and results will be through 30 minutes presentations by the participants.  Invited lectures given by leading international scientists and engineers from industry and academia will highlight the current status in the field.
