Experimental Studies

Designing the LFC system:

  1. To determine performance metrics of the suction-design by systematically studying the porous sheet thickness, hole distribution, and permeability, within the technology and manufacturing limitations of aircraft design.
  2. To aerodynamically design and characterize the internal wing structure, to optimize the flow rate and the inner pressure distribution for the suction system.
  3. To formulate an efficiency metric for the integrated suction with movable parts on the wing system such as flaps and ailerons.
  4. Experimental wind tunnel and fluid bench testing, incorporated with numerical simulation efforts are required to translate the acquired knowledge into empirical based ROMs to inform the external and internal design of the suction system within the structural and manufacturing limitations.
