Fluid Mechanics

Course content

The students have basic knowledge in the continuum mechanical aspects of bodies such as liquids. They are familiar with selected special cases and their model equations and are able to derive these equations.

  • Fluid Mechanics: Introduction, flow properties and basic concepts·
  • Stream filament theory: basic equations, incompressible flows, compressible flows
  • Integral Momentum Equation: basic equations and applications for incompressible flow
  • Viscous incompressible 2D flows: foundation of Navier-Stokes equations, laminar Couette flow, laminar boundary layer equations, theory of self similar laminar boundary layers, turbulent boundary layer equations, turbulence closure and simple turbulence model, universal velocity distribution, flat plate engineering formulae
