Computational Acoustics

The lecture and lab „Computational Acoustics” aims to introduce students to fundamental computational methods utilized in acoustics. It teaches students to identify appropriate numerical methods for acoustic assessments during the design phase, while also focusing on advantages and disadvantages of the presented method. This is done by introducing discretization-based methods like the FEM and BEM in detail, while also deriving the basic fundamentals for geometric and energy based computational methods. In the end, students learn about the

  • FEM
  • BEM
  • Ray Tracing
  • Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA)

The Lab in “Computational Acoustics” supports the lecture and allows students to model basic (vibro-) acoustic problems and run the simulations themselves by using a state-of-the-art in-house FEM research code elPaSo (elementary parallel solver - https://akustik.gitlab-pages.rz.tu-bs.de/elPaSo-Core/main/intro.html).
