The Green Office is the central point of contact for education for sustainable development (ESD) at TU Braunschweig. Supported jointly by staff and students, we promote sustainable education and strengthen the integration of sustainability into teaching and the university.
We implement our priorities within various projects and campaigns: We develop educational programs, promote networking around sustainability and support the integration of sustainability into university teaching.
All projects and campaigns are listed alphabetically below. Some appear twice - once under their official title and once under a descriptive name.
kNOw MORE stands for raising awareness through knowledge and visibility. At the heart of the campaign are events, lectures and workshops for everyone who works and studies at TU Braunschweig. The campaign highlights the advisory services offered by TU Braunschweig and the city of Braunschweig and, in addition to posters and postcards, primarily uses social media. The Green Office is a cooperation partner of the campaign.
CampusXperience is the campus festival of the Technische Universität Braunschweig. It offers a variety of insights into research, teaching and campus life - an eventful day for young people, families and the interested public. The Green Office is a cooperation partner of the event.
TU Braunschweig has been a partner university of the Virtual Academy for Sustainability since 2023. Students can attend the digital seminars on sustainability topics as part of the Interdisciplinary Qualifications pool. The Green Office offers the courses every summer semester.
The “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” course catalog lists courses at TU Darmstadt that deal with one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Cross-departmental courses are included that are related to sustainable development in terms of content
“TU was!” is an interactive guide that offers students, employees and community members low-threshold access to volunteering opportunities at TU Braunschweig and in their local area. The focus is on sustainability, social justice and global responsibility. “TU was!” invites you to play an active role in shaping ethical responsibility - in a needs-oriented, diverse and networked way.
The Technische Universität Braunschweig has been awarded the title of Fairtrade University and is therefore committed to fairer global trade. In cooperation with the Green Office and student initiatives, fair trade products are promoted on campus, events are organized and awareness of global justice is raised. The application comprises five criteria, including anchoring fair trade products in everyday university life and active public relations work. Students play an active role and campaign for sustainable supply chains and intergenerational justice.
TUmorrow Nights is a film program dedicated entirely to the topic of sustainability! Throughout the year, we present carefully selected films in the Universum Filmtheater Braunschweig that highlight various aspects of sustainability.
The TUmorrow Lounge invites all interested parties to the Student House every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 2:30 to 5 pm. Over a cup of free Fairtrade coffee, there is room for exchange on sustainability, student initiatives and research projects. In a relaxed atmosphere, ideas are shared, discussions initiated and collaborations encouraged.
The Green Wiki of the TU Braunschweig Green Office brings together compact information about sustainability on campus. It is aimed at students, employees and anyone interested in finding out about educational opportunities, sustainability initiatives, projects, funding opportunities and more. A FAQ section answers key questions about the work of the Green Office.
The Sustainability Network of Lower Saxony's Universities (HochNiNa) has been in existence since 2018 and aims to promote exchange and cooperation between those responsible and officers for sustainability at universities in Lower Saxony and to give them a common voice in order to expand sustainability at the state's universities.

“TUmorrow Certified” is an Instagram campaign by TU Braunschweig's Green Office, in which various sustainable places, events, things and people with a connection to the campus are presented. The aim of the campaign is to provide tips for more sustainability in everyday university life, to inform about exciting events and projects and to show what is happening on the TU Braunschweig campus in terms of sustainability.

The Green Office project aims to create two to three barrier-free open-air learning spaces on the TU Braunschweig campus. Where possible, tables and benches are to be set up in the fresh air. A mobile and rentable table and bench set is also conceivable.
TU for Future is a series of lectures held annually in the winter semester at the Technische Universität Braunschweig, which is organized in close cooperation with students. The focus is on pressing issues relating to sustainability and climate protection. Experts from various disciplines provide insights into current scientific findings, evaluate social developments and discuss innovative solutions.
The Recycled Paper Working Group supports TU Braunschweig's application for the Paper Atlas, a nationwide competition for sustainable paper procurement. TU Braunschweig has been taking part since 2022, setting an example for the use of recycled paper with the Blue Angel. The aim is to make resource conservation visible and to make paper consumption at the university more sustainable.
We support educators in making sustainability goals visible in their courses and anchoring them more firmly in the curriculum. As part of the Teach4TUmorrow project, the Green Office is developing support services in the form of specialist input, workshops, guidelines and personal advice. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form the basis of this work.
With our SDG mentorship program, we want to show where at TU Braunschweig the 17 SDGs are being promoted in teaching or research on a very practical and daily basis. TU employees act as “mentors” for one of the SDGs and are presented on our Instagram channel and on the Green Office homepage with a short interview.
In our function as TU Braunschweig's Sustainability Office, we act as a network and contact point for all matters relating to social and economic justice, protecting our planet and building global partnerships. In doing so, we support (student) initiatives or working groups at TU Braunschweig that are working on a sustainability topic.

The VDI Braunschweig Bezirksverein e.V., in cooperation with the Braunschweigischer Hochschulbund (BHB) and the Green Office of the TU Braunschweig, supports theses that deal with sustainable technologies.

The ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) working group of the HochNiNa network connects stakeholders from all over Lower Saxony to strengthen education for sustainable development in university teaching. It coordinates state-wide offers for students and lecturers and promotes the joint visualization of the SDGs in teaching. It is coordinated by the Green Office at TU Braunschweig.
