Education for sustainable development working group (Hoch NiNa)

Sustainability Network of Universities in Lower Saxony (HochNiNa)

The Sustainability Network of Lower Saxony's Universities (HochNiNa) was founded in 2018 to promote exchange and cooperation between those responsible for sustainability at universities in Lower Saxony. The aim is to jointly promote sustainability at the state's universities and form a strong, common voice.

Sustainability at universities encompasses operational aspects such as energy saving, mobility and waste management as well as teaching, research, transfer and the necessary structures, processes and reporting. Due to their different structures and resources, the universities in Lower Saxony set different priorities and develop diverse approaches from which the network benefits.

The network is open to all universities in Lower Saxony - for a strong, joint commitment to greater sustainability.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) working group

HochNiNa works in several working groups, which are supported by a coordination team, and offers an important platform for exchange, inspiration and reflection on one's own sustainability work.

The Green Office of TU Braunschweig is an active part of this network: all employees of the Green Office are active members of HochNiNa and are involved in the thematic working groups. In particular, the Green Office is responsible for the Lower Saxony-wide coordination of the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) working group - a key component in strengthening sustainability in higher education.

The aims of the ESD working group are:

  • Development and implementation of Lower Saxony-wide offers in the field of ESD and sustainability for students,
  • Support and qualification of teachers through state-wide offers,
  • Joint visualization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in university teaching.
