Nonreciprocity is the property of a system in which transmission or response differs depending on direction, so signals, waves, or interactions are not symmetric when reversed. In electronics, nonreciprocity is exploited in devices such as diodes, which allow current to flow preferentially in one direction and are widely used as rectifiers. In the topical areas of fluxonics and magnonics, we exploit nonreciprocity in the dynamics of vortices (fluxons) and spin waves (magnons) to develop directional couplers and various diode (ratchet) devices.
