Student Assistant (HiWi f/m/d) in the Project Design to Acoustics (D2A)

Institution for Acoustics and Dynamics

The Technical University of Braunschweig is one of the leading technical universities in Germany and offers its employees a wide range of modern, challenging, and diverse jobs. Approximately 3,800 employees work not only in research and teaching, but also in administration, technology, and skilled trades to ensure that our university successfully fulfills its educational mission for over 15,000 students and around 100 trainees through a broad spectrum of teaching and research, excellent facilities, and a personal atmosphere.

The Institute of Acoustics and Dynamics (InAD) at TU Braunschweig is looking for a motivated

student assistant (HiWi, f/m/d)

to support research in the area of Design to Acoustics (D2A).
The D2A project combines numerical vibroacoustic simulation, design parameterization, automated data generation, and machine learning. The long-term objective is to develop data-driven methods that can rapidly predict acoustic behaviour and support the design of quieter engineering structures.

Your tasks:
Depending on your interests and experience, your work may include:

  • Developing and parameterizing simplified structural-acoustic models
  • Performing finite-element and vibroacoustic simulations
  • Automating simulation workflows and generating structured datasets
  • Processing and visualizing vibration, sound-pressure, and acoustic-field results
  • Supporting the development of surrogate and machine-learning models
  • Comparing reduced-order or data-driven predictions with high-fidelity simulations
  • Documenting methods, implementations, and numerical results.

Your profile:

  • Enrolled in mechanical engineering, computational sciences, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related programme
  • Interest in acoustics, structural dynamics, numerical simulation, or machine learning
  • Basic programming experience, preferably in Python, MATLAB, or C++
  • Careful, independent, and well-structured working style
  • Good English communication skills
  • Previous knowledge of FEM, signal processing, machine learning, or scientific computing is helpful but not mandatory.

What we offer:

  • Participation in a current interdisciplinary research project
  • Practical experience in computational acoustics and data-driven engineering
  • Opportunity to work with modern simulation, automation, and machine-learning methods
  • Flexible working hours compatible with your studies
  • Close scientific supervision and the possibility of continuing the topic in a student thesis
  • A pay of €15.20 (in Bachelor's studies) or €15.81 (in Master's studies) per hour.
  • A special payment at the end of the year.

Workplace: Institute of Acoustics and Dynamics (InAD), TU Braunschweig
Starting date: As soon as possible
Working hours: By agreement
Duration: Initially by agreement, with the possibility of extension
