Vita

Mr. Coelho holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, with a specialization in healthcare facility design. Since 2017, he has work as a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Technische Universität Braunschweig, where he is actively engaged in both teaching and research. In parallel with his academic work, Mr. Coelho has developed extensive expertise in unstable, conflict-affected, and resource-limited settings, contributing to healthcare projects in places such as Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Mozambique, Tajikistan, among other countries. He has supported Ministries of Health as an international consultant across diverse regions, advising on hospital planning, infrastructure development. In addition, Mr. Coelho has collaborated with humanitarian organizations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), leading projects focused on emergency preparedness, outbreak response, and resilient hospital design. Beyond field-based assignments, Mr. Coelho has also work as an member of the expert panels for the World Health Organization (WHO).

Arbeitsschwerpunkt

Relationship between the hospital-built environment and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), focus on maternal and child care, hospitals and primary care facilities in low-resource and crisis-affected regions, adaptable and robust solutions for sustaining services and limiting the transmission of infectious diseases

Motivation

Mr. Coelho is driven by the belief that architecture can tangibly improve health outcomes, dignity, and safety—even in the world’s most challenging environments. Assignments in conflict-affected and resource-limited settings have strengthened his commitment to improving healthcare facilities through practical, context-sensitive, and resilient design strategies. His experience with humanitarian operations and global health organizations underpins a vision for healthcare environments that empower health workers and ensure safe, dignified care for vulnerable populations.
