Nitride Technology (Prof. Andreas Waag)

For the development of power efficient KI we are developing optical neuromorphic computing based on microLEDs. 

MicroLEDs are fabricated, characterised and applied for various sensing technologies, e.g. microscopy or gas detection. 

We investigate AlN high temperature annealing for template preparation of AlGaN optoelectronic devices, e.g. UV-LEDs. The epitaxy of UV-LEDs is developed in our clean rooms. 

We are developing two approaches for the fabrication of Photonic Integrated Circuits for the blue/UV spectral region: Firstly based on Al(Ga)N which can be tuned electrooptically, secondly based on porous GaN which we apply for refractive index modulation.  

For addressing the scalability of quantum computers, highly integrated blue laser diodes with small line widths are required. Thus, we are investigating two approaches: Distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes as well as Photonic Crystal Surface Emitting Laser Diodes (PCSEL). 

We are active in the research field of GaN and AlGaN power electronics. 

Besides the GaAlInN material system we are looking into novel nitrides for different applications.
