The Institute of Microtechnology (IMT) of the Technische Universität Braunschweig is looking to fill a Doctoral Researcher position (Entgeltgruppe E 13, m/w/d, funded at 100%) as part of Prof. Iordania Constantinou’s research group. The position should be filled by January 2026. Lengthy visa processes can, unfortunately, not be accommodated.
The research project: The position is funded by BrightBrain at TU Braunschweig, a flagship initiative supported by the Ecoversity grant, aiming to build a nationally distinctive centre that bridges neuroscience, microtechnology, and microphotonics. BrightBrain focuses on the de velopment of innovative miniaturized biomimetic platforms, equipped with integrated sensors and high-resolution imaging capabilities for advanced cell culture models, including neuronal and multicellular systems. The project leverages transdisciplinary collaboration between eight local research groups to address fundamental aspects of neuronal homeostasis and pursue new therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases. Within this framework, IMT leads the technical development and validation of these miniaturized cell culture platforms.
Desired qualifications:
• Master’s degree in biomedical engineering or related field
• Experience in microfabrication
• Experience in cell culture
• Interest in interdisciplinary research, particularly at the interface of engineering and biology
• Interest in gaining teaching experience
• Reliability, independence, and self-motivation
• Creativity and personal initiative
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of German is an advantage
The institute:
he Institute of Microtechnology (Institut für Mikrotechnik) is home to a dynamic team working on a range of interdisciplinary subjects in a collaborative environment. State-of-the-art facilities provide all necessary equipment and support for the fabrication and characterization of novel microsystems. Most of the work will be carried out at the Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ). At PVZ, experts from pharmacy, biology, process engineering, and microtechnology work together towards the production of tailor-made medicines and medical devices.
Application Process:
Please prepare your application in English, as a combined PDF document consisting of:
• a short cover letter
• a full CV - including a list of publications if applicable
• available academic performance records Applications and/or questions regarding this position should be sent directly to Prof. Constan tinou at i.constantinou@tu-braunschweig.de.
Application deadline: October 31st 2025. TU Braunschweig aims to increase the number of women in science and technology. Women are therefore strongly urged to apply, as are qualified handicapped applicants. The university is multi-cultural and applications are welcome from all nationalities.
