This semester, we took the students of the Composite Production / Faserverbundfertigung course at TU Braunschweig on a two-day field trip to Stade.
On Thursday, we visited the Airbus plant in Stade, offering exciting insights into the manufacturing of vertical tail planes as well as A350 upper wing cover production. The size of the components, the process chains, and the production systems in use were particularly impressive for the students. A visit to the DLR at the CFK North Research Center in the CFK Valley on the next day completed the program. There, we gained detailed insights into current research and development activities, including the AFP system GroFi, the research autoclave BALU, and RTM manufacturing.
Our sincere thanks go to our guides and Daniel Stefaniak from DLR in Stade, as well as to our bus driver from the company unterwegs, who brought us safely there and back despite challenging weather conditions. Such field trips are a valuable component of academic education and play an important role in bridging university teaching with industrial and non-university research.
