SCOUT for Internationals

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Welcome at TU Braunschweig!

At the start of your studies in Germany, many things will be new to you, some may seem quite unusual to you. An unkonwn country, an unknown city, a different language and a different educational system. You probably already asked yourself

  • How can I find my way around the TU Braunschweig?
  • How do I make friends here?
  • How can I make contact with German students?

If you are having trouble understanding the above please click on SCOUT information brochures in different languages.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN BEING AN INTERNATIONAL?

With the SCOUT programme, we offer you a structured, systematic, orderly, and soundly engineered way to answer all these questions (and more!). During the course of one semester, you will be supported by an experienced native student.

WHO CAN BECOME AN INTERNATIONAL IN THE SCOUT PROGRAMME?

You can participate if you have just arrived as well as if you are already studying here for a while but would like to enlarge your network with the natives.

WHEN DOES THE SCOUT PROGRAMME START?

The SCOUT programme starts each semester at the beginning of the lecturing period (summer semester: mid of april; winter semester end of october). If you decide to participate, it is essential that you can and will participate on a regular basis. During the course of the semester, your participation in different modules will be mandatory.

Important Note: SCOUT requires regular meetings with your tandem partner and time resources as every seminar as well. At this point we would like to point out, that participation in all modules is mandatory and involves good time management.

WHICH MODULES DOES THE SCOUT PROGRAMME INCLUDE?

Module 1: Matching and Kick-off

We will start with a kick-off meeting at the beginning of each semester. There, you will meet your Scout.

Module 2: Dyadic Meetings
sprechende Menschen

During the course of the semester, you will have five mandatory appointments with your Scout. The content of those meetings is pre-structured.

Module 3: Leisure Activities
Eis

At leat four meetings are leisure activities, which you can do together with other dyads if you would like to.

Module 4: Reflection Meetings
Person vor dem Spiegel

We offer several reflection group meetings during the semesters. Please attend one of those meetings.

Module 5: Farewell
viele Menschen

The SCOUT-programme ends with a farewell party at the end of the semester.

Module 6: Scientific Observation
Wissenschaftliche Begleitung

We would like to know how successful we are with SCOUT. Therefore, we will assess some psychological variables (no worries, we won't do anything without your knowledge and consent).
