Doctorate

Submission of digital dissertations via Nextcloud

For the opening of the doctoral procedure, the dissertation must be submitted as a PDF file (max. 75 MB file size). For security reasons, data carriers are not allowed anymore from now on. Upload the PDF via drag&drop using the cloud system of TU Braunschweig, Nextcloud.

No Student's, Bachelor's and Master's thesis!

Office not staffed

The Doctoral Office will not be staffed from 3 April to 6 April 2023. We will be available again on 11 April 2023, after Easter holidays.

Introduction

At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of TU Braunschweig it is possible to obtain a doctorate as "Dr.-Ing". The doctoral phase includes both independent scientific work and the performance of tasks at the institute (research/teaching/administration), as well as the further education of doctoral students to become sought-after managers in industry and science via the workshop programme of the Graduate Academy GradTUBS as part of the structured doctoral programme.

Our bilingual brochure offers both doctoral candidates and interested persons an overview of the doctoral procedure at our faculty. You will get to know the procedure and learn more about the first steps when your doctoral project has become more concrete. In addition, it contains a checklist for the submission of all documents during the different stages of the procedure, as well as the 'General guidelines for the publication and delivery of dissertations'.


Availability

  • Personal appointments (Consultation, Submitting the dissertation, Receiving the doctoral certificate) are possible on Monday, Tuesday (9:30-12:00 each) and Thursday (9:30-12:00 and 13:30-16:00). You can make an appointment via Timeacle  as usual.

  • No appointment is required for the submission of applications for admission and knowledge tests. Please use in-house mail, the mailbox at the entrance to the office or the postal delivery service.
  • You can reach us by phone at the usual times (0531 391-4011): Mon+Tue, 9:30-12:00; Thurs 9:30-12:00 & 13:30-16:00. Outside our office hours, please use our e-mail address. 
  • Follow the central guidelines of TU Braunschweig in dealing with the Corona virus.

Appointments for submission and pick-up of documents

  • No appointment is required for the submission of applications for admission and knowledge tests. Please use in-house mail, the mailbox at the entrance to the office or the postal delivery service.
  • Please make an appointment for the submission of the application to open the doctoral procedure. Postal delivery is also possible. In this case please contact us to discuss the further procedure.
  • Please make an appointment to pick up the doctoral certificate. Please bring a valid identification document with you.

In any case, please make sure that the documents to be submitted are complete. Our checklist will support you. 

Excellent PhD chances

Strukturiertes Doktorat offers PhD students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering an optimum teacher-student ratio as well as individual scientific and interdisciplinary opportunities. Strukturiertes Doktorat is unique in Germany and aims at the improvement of the engineering PhD programme. On 24 May 2011, Strukturiertes Doktorat was awarded a prize by the National Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech).
