ITE | Shotcrete 3D Printing of a double curved reinforced concrete wall

This double curved reinforced concrete wall demonstrates the advancements made in during the collaborative research project “generative manufacturing with concrete” conducted by the the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Leibniz Universität Hannover and Technische Universität Clausthal.

The so-called "Shotcrete 3D Printing" method is an addition to the more widespread extrusion-based 3D Conctere Printing processes. The assets of the Shotcrete 3D Printing include excellent layer bonding, the possibility to embed structural reinforcement during printing, as well as the extended geometric freedom which allows printing cantilevers and overhangs without the necessity to use additional support structures (see Gradual Transition Shotcrete 3D Printing). Moreover, the initially rough surfaces can be automatically trowel in order to create smooth high-quality concrete finishes.
