A2.3 - Assessment the impact of new aircraft technologies on cabin noise

Motivation

Today, noise requirements for air transport are strongly affected by local regulations and to a lesser extent ruled by worldwide certification. The noise exposure of residents and the acceptance level of passengers drive this. Therefore, reliable and precise noise assessment methods based on physical wave propagation principles for external and cabin noise are needed within the design process of future aircraft. A powerful integration of high-fidelity simulations of the cabin enabling detailed parameter and sensitivity studies are rarely documented in literature.

Objectives

With respect to acoustics, a comprehensive noise assessment at both, the immision point “cabin” and the immission point “ground”, respectively is aimed within SE²A. Some of the main objectives of the project are:

  • Development of vibro-acoustic models by automatised usage of the aircraft conceptual design data
  • Cabin noise assessment for novel aircraft configurations considering the turbulent boundary layer and high-fidelity noise sources for integrated engines by ICA B
  • Recommendations for the aircraft design and operations regarding cabin noise levels
