Visualize content efficiently and professionally with AI

January 7, 2026, 8-9:30 AM, online

The AI toolbox allows you to generate not only text but also image material. You can use your creations for internal presentations, handouts, or social media, to name a few. However, the possibilities of AI in image generation are still limited and should be used with caution. In this practice-oriented introductory event, you will learn about the possibilities and limitations of the image generator, as well as important legal aspects for using images at TU Braunschweig. You will also learn strategies for formulating good prompts (inputs). During the event, you are encouraged to experiment with the tool and reflect on its potential applications for your academic studies.

This event is part of the seminar “Was mit Medien: AI – Skills and Tools for Study/Career”. It is designed for students.

For more details about the program and registration, check out “Was mit Medien.”

Building ideas instead of discussing – Design Thinking meets Minetest (Learning Nugget #13)

January 29, 2026, 2:30–3:15 PM, online

Digital gameplay environments such as Minecraft or the open-source variant Minetest (also known as “Luanti”) are regularly used beyond their playful functions to set up test environments and develop prototypes. This makes them particularly exciting in teaching in connection with approaches such as design thinking, which involves the systematic development and testing of innovative products or services.

Speakers Varinia Wittholz and Dr. Michael Meyer from the Institute for Information Systems at TU Braunschweig will first provide an overview of design thinking, emphasizing the importance of prototyping, before giving an insight into the Minetest (Luanti) software. They will present a concrete application using an example from teaching at the Institute for Information Systems at TU Braunschweig. After the presentation, participants are invited to discuss the extent to which digital prototyping in teaching promotes creativity, understanding, and collaboration among students.

AI systems as learning companions

February 4, 2026, 8-9:30 AM, online

How can I use AI tools in my studies in a way that supports my learning process instead of replacing it? What options are available when it comes to lawfully using my own materials with AI tools for learning? And what resources does the university provide for this purpose? We will explore these and other questions during the seminar and look at practical examples.

This event is part of the seminar “Was mit Medien: AI – Skills and Tools for Study/Career”. It is designed for students.

For more details about the program and registration, check out “Was mit Medien.”

March

Advanced course on TUBS AI toolbox: Prompts and workflows in everyday work

March 10, 2026, 9 AM - 1 PM, Media Lab (on-site)

AI applications are already being used in many areas at TU Braunschweig, for example to translate emails, generate images for the institute's website, or gather ideas for an event as a team. This not only provides great practical examples, but also raises new questions and challenges.

We want to look at and discuss all of the above together in this workshop. You will learn about further applications of the TU's AI toolbox as well as the associated challenges and consider possible solution strategies, such as techniques for writing prompts for text or image generation. You are also welcome to bring your own examples and questions.

Beyond that, we'll take a look at the bigger picture: Which AI applications beyond the TU's AI toolbox could be exciting for us at TU Braunschweig, and what's next for AI tools?

Introduction to the TUBS AI Toolbox

April 15, 2026, 10 AM -12 PM, online

The Gauß-IT-Zentrum offers all members of the TU Braunschweig a variety of AI tools for administration, study, and research with its TUBS AI toolbox, which can be used to translate texts, generate images, or answer questions. These tools are easy to use and often deliver impressive results. However, AI tools also raise numerous questions: How do they work? How reliable are the results? And what legal considerations need to be taken into account?

In this basic training course, you will be given a practical introduction to the AI Toolbox and will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. As the AI Toolbox is constantly being developed, this training course will always provide you with the latest information on the following topics:

  • Functionality and capabilities of the AI Toolbox
  • Legal aspects and basic rules for use
  • Coming up with prompts for different purposes
  • Practical advice and frequently asked questions

No registration required. Simply click here to participate!

Practical course: TUBS AI toolbox for research and teaching

April 16 & 17, 2026, 9 AM to 1 PM each day, Media Lab (on-site)

From writing abstracts and creating visualizations to discussing research questions, the TUBS AI toolbox provided by the Gauß-IT-Zentrum assists you in these and many other activities in research and teaching. With this toolbox, the university offers you free access to professional AI models provided by external providers as well as directly from its own data center.

Using practical examples, you can try out how the various AI tools can support you in your daily work at TU Braunschweig in a playful setting. In addition to the toolbox, you will also take a look at other useful AI tools and learn how to use artificial intelligence locally on your own notebook.

We will also discuss the legal aspects that need to be considered as well as the requirements imposed by the DFG, Journals, and others on the use of AI. The workshop thus serves as a comprehensive introduction to the topic and, above all, offers a practical overview. No prior knowledge is required.

Contents include:

  • Introduction to the TUBS AI toolbox
  • Overview of possible applications in research and teaching
  • Prompting strategies for text and image generation
  • Examples of local AI tools on your own notebook
  • Overview of legal and ethical aspects of AI use

Methods:

  • Playful challenges in small groups
  • Plenary sessions and group discussions
