In this thesis at IWF, Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) target materials will be assessed from a life cycle engineering perspective through a qualitative and quantitative comparison of available datasets (literature, databases and other sources). The work aims to identify how target composition and production routes influence environmental impacts, and to highlight key uncertainties and data gaps. Key steps include structuring and harmonising the data (system boundaries, functional units and assumptions), comparing relevant indicators (e.g., energy and material demand, and climate impact where available), and deriving hotspot and sensitivity insights to support transparent comparison and decision-making.
