Student theses

Learning Factory Industrial Metaverse
-- this thesis can be written in German or English --

Motivation
The Digital Factory describes the integration of a comprehensive network of digital models, methods, and tools within a factory context, ranging from simulations to three-dimensional visualization. Industrial Metaverse technologies enable this spatially dynamic integration of different submodels into a coordination model. This reduces the coordination required in factory planning between construction and production system planning, facilitates the transfer of models from planning to operations, and accelerates the continuous development of the factory and manufacturing systems.

Task
This work aims to model the learning factory from a specific planning perspective and integrate the model into the Industrial Metaverse. Software like Revit, ema Plant Designer, ema Work Designer, NVIDIA Omniverse and others are utilized to build a holistic coordination model of the learning factory.
You will build on existing results from past work and develop the digital future of the learning factory.

Model-based Engineering of Circular Manufacturing Systems
-- this thesis can be written in German or English --

Motivation
Manufacturing Systems generate waste along the product life cycle. The concept of Circular Manufacturing aims to prevent unavoidable waste by coupling production processes with processes from remanufacturing and recycling. Successful Circular Manufacturing achieves lower waste generation while decreasing environmental and economic impact as well as achieving regulatory recycling targets. This multi-dimensional goal is only achievable by investigating the material flow within the system context.

Task
This work aims to model the material flow of different configurations for circular manufacturing systems, i.e. fully linear, integrated recycling, integrated remanufacturing. You can choose between use cases on batteries or photovoltaics. The modeling is performed in python utilizing the SimPy package.
You will build on existing results from past work and develop adaptable simulation models for circular manufacturing.

Developing the Learning Factory of the Future
-- this thesis can be written in German or English --

Motivation
Die Lernfabrik - The Learning Factory for Sustainable, Circular and Digital Manufacturing provides a teaching and learning space for many lecture formats at TU Braunschweig. We are constantly developing the infrastructure further and are looking for students with methodological and practical skills that want to bring the factory to live.

Task
This work aims to develop the learning factory further in any way. You can come up with your own task or we can brainstorm something based on your interests.
You will build on existing results from past work and develop the future of the learning factory.

Contact
Feel free to reach out if you were visiting our learning factory as a student and already have an idea you would like to pursue or if you are curious about what the learning factory is and how you can write a thesis in close connection to a practical infrastructure. We will discuss all further details in a short meeting to develop a tailor-made thesis for your skills and interests.
