This project aims to develop advanced models for the simulation of hydrogen/air combustion. The unique characteristics of hydrogen are not fully captured by current state-of-the-art combustion models, making it necessary to improve them in order to represent the complex phenomena typical of lean hydrogen-air combustion. This research is motivated by the goal of enabling large-scale use of hydrogen as a clean fuel, contributing to decarbonization efforts.
The project focuses on generating a comprehensive database of large-scale Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) under gas turbine conditions. This database will serve as the foundation for developing next-generation models using data-driven approaches.
