Head of Division Data-Driven Modeling of Mechanical Systems

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Wessels

Henning Wessels is Professor (W2) for Data-driven mechanics since 2025. Before he joined TU Braunschweig as a Juniorprofessor in 2021, he was a scientific coworker at the Institute for Continuum Mechanics at Leibniz University Hannover, where he completed his PhD in 2019 under the supervision of Prof. Peter Wriggers.

Prof. Wessels holds a Bachelor’s (2013) and Master’s (2016) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Leibniz University Hannover. During his Master studies, he spent an Eramus semester at Aristotle University Thessaloniki.

In 2020, he has been awarded a Feodor-Lynen fellowhship of the Alexander-von-Humboldt foundation. The intended research stay at Brown University could not be realized due to the pandemic. In 2017, he visited the group of Prof. Tarek Zohdi at UC Berkeley as a Fulbright Fellow. His research interests include, but are not limited to, scientific machine learning, model calibration and discovery, data assimilation, simulation for additive manufacturing, as well as multi-scale and multi-physics modeling.
