Health and Integration Management

TU Braunschweig aims to help make your workplace and working conditions supportive of your health and wellbeing.

Regardless of the support services already in place, it has been a legal requirement since 2004 to offer health-promoting measures at the workplace for employees returning after illness.

Under § 167 (2) of Book IX of the German Social Code (SGB IX), employers are legally required to offer Health and Integration Management (Betriebliches Eingliederungsmanagement) to employees who have been continuously or repeatedly unable to work for more than six weeks within a 12-month period.

The Health and Integration Management team, led by Dr Ina von Zelewski, is available—confidentially and upon request—to support and guide you through this process.

What support does our Health and Integration Management provide?

  1. The employer is legally required to offer affected employees what is known as Health and Integration Management. If the employee agrees to participate, the next step involves joint discussions to identify and plan individual measures that are necessary in the specific case to support their return to work during or after a longer period of illness.

  2. The employee is free to accept or decline the offer. Consent can also be withdrawn at any time.

  3. The employer has delegated the implementation of Health and Integration Management to an integration team. Members of this team include the coordinator of the Health and Integration Management team, one representative each from the staff council and the HR department, the representative for employees with severe disabilities and their deputy, as well as a member of TU Braunschweig’s occupational health service. Involving additional internal stakeholders can help to develop solution-oriented approaches.

  4. Where necessary and with the employee’s consent, external experts may also be involved (in particular from health insurance funds, pension insurance, the Employment Agency, accident insurance, etc.).
