Since 2010, Professor Katja Koch has held the Scholastic Pedagogy Chair at TU Braunschweig‘s Institute for Educational Sciences. Her work focusses on empirical research on schools and education. In research and education, she investigates how educational institutions can react adequately to current challenges such as migration, heterogeneity, multilingualism and digitalisation.

She completed her teaching degree in History and German Studies at the Philipps-Universität Marburg. After passing the state examination, she received a grant from the Hessian state government and obtained her doctorate with a thesis on “The transition from primary to secondary school from the teachers’ point of view”. Following this, she became a research associate for the DFG project “Family education strategies as a multi-generational project”. In 2001, she took up an assistantship at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and completed her habilitation on “Second language acquisition of primary school children with a non-German native language” and was awarded the Venia Legendi for educational sciences. In 2008, she provisionally took over the Scholastic Pedagogy Chair at TU Braunschweig’s Institute for Educational Sciences.

Professor Koch is the first Vice President for Teacher Training. One of the challenges here is promoting teacher training at a university with such a strong technological focus.
