Dietmar Smyrek has been the full-time Vice President for Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure at TU Braunschweig since 1 November 2010. In July 2015, he was confirmed in office by the Senate and the University Council for another eight years. His second term began in November 2016.

As Vice President for Human Resources, Finance and Infrastructure, Dietmar Smyrek is responsible for managing the university administration. The administration includes the resorts of human resources, law and studies, finances and building management -  including the building owner's attribute. At the same time, the Vice-President is the Chief Financial Officer. As a full-time member of the Executive Board, Dietmar Smyrek is involved in the University's strategic decision-making processes and is responsible for their implementation in and by the administration.

Biography

Dietmar Smyrek

Dietmar Smyrek studied business administration at the University of Göttingen from 1987 to 1992. His professional career then took him to the German Aerospace Centre from 1993 to 1995 and from 1999 to October 2010. Here he held leading positions in finance, human resources and infrastructure, most recently as head of the Braunschweig, Göttingen and Trauen sites.

He gained international experience from 1996 to 1998 as head of administration at the German-Dutch Wind Tunnel Foundation in the Netherlands. Dietmar Smyrek is involved in numerous institutions in the region's science and research landscape as a board or advisory board member. Since 2018, he has been chairman of the "Digital Transformation" working group of the Association of Chancellors of German Universities.
