At TU Braunschweig, we empower students to take on responsibility in societal transformation processes and, as change agents, to help shape sustainable developments in society and the workplace. In addition to subject-specific expertise, we foster interdisciplinary skills, responsible thinking and action, as well as social and environmental engagement.
Sustainability is firmly embedded in numerous degree programs, modules, and courses at the TU Braunschweig. Faculty members create learning environments where sustainability issues are addressed, reflected upon, and further developed from various disciplinary perspectives. In addition, interdisciplinary offerings support students and faculty in deepening their understanding of sustainability during their studies and in further developing teaching practices in line with sustainable development.
In 2024, the TU Braunschweig started a systematic evaluation to examine the extent to which its study programs address topics related to sustainable development - particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The results show that teaching at TU Braunschweig not only makes a fundamental contribution to SDG 4 - Quality Education, but provides key impulses for a sustainable future, for example in the areas of innovative technologies, future-oriented business models, health and well-being, and resource-efficient production methods.

The “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” course catalog lists courses at TU Braunschweig that deal with one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Cross-departmental courses with a connection to sustainable development are included.

Deepen your understanding of sustainability during your studies, discover new perspectives, and contribute your own ideas: Students from all disciplines can take advantage of various opportunities related to sustainable development at TU Braunschweig. These include the new “Sustainable Development” certificate, the interdisciplinary lecture series “TU for Future,” digital seminars on sustainability topics, and the TUmorrow Awards, which recognize theses and student engagement in sustainability.
To help students actively and responsibly shape societal change, teaching needs to foster the right skills and integrate sustainability into learning. That is why we support lecturers in bringing sustainability into their courses.
The Green Office supports the integration of sustainability into teaching through advice, networking opportunities, and training, as well as initiatives that highlight and strengthen sustainability-related teaching.
