Keeping an eye on the environment: What happens when you fertilise a field? The plants grow better. But what effects does the fertiliser have on the soil, the groundwater, the atmosphere? These are the kinds of questions you deal with as an environmental scientist.

How do we achieve climate neutrality by 2045? What will sustainable energy systems and mobility of the future look like? We can only make progress in the development of energy systems and electromobility—involving photovoltaics, wind energy, batteries, hydrogen electrolysers and fuel cells—by thinking beyond the boundaries of individual disciplines. In the degree programme Sustainable Power Systems and Electromobility, you will learn the necessary basics of physics, chemistry, electrical engineering and other engineering sciences. In addition to individual technologies at a component level, you will also learn about cross-sector system modelling and holistic technology assessment. Studying at TU Braunschweig means you will have excellent career opportunities. On our way to climate neutrality, you will actively participate in the transformation of energy, heating and transport systems.

The study course combines the field of mechanical engineering with sustainability aspects. It is motivated by tremendous global changes, which are driven by the limited availability of resources, the challenges arising with the man-made climate change, and the increasing complexity of interacting systems. Accordingly, technological change and a sustainable future are inseparably linked. Our study programme offers fundamentals of engineering science and equally addresses sustainability topics in the fields of mobility and production as well as processes and energy. These are represented as specialisation areas in the curriculum. The study programme is internationally oriented, and it targets students from Germany and from abroad.

As a graduate from the Sustainable Energy Engineering degree programme you will develop and optimise technologies in different areas of sustainable energy conversion, such as batteries, fuel cells, photovoltaic or wind and hydropower plants. By establishing the technical prerequisites for the storage and distribution of energy, you will design and plan plants in order to use energy in a sustainable and efficient manner. You will also analyse and evaluate plants under aspects of energetic and economic sustainability and develop processes for optimised energy and resource use.
