Information for visitors of the Geoecological Colloquium at the TU Braunschweig

What is the purpose of the colloquium?

  • to broaden our professional horizon beyond the boundaries of disciplines, particularly with regard to the various facets of environmental science.
  • the encounter between competent scientists from abroad, from the field of geoecology, and interested listeners of various professional and institutional backgrounds and different "degrees of academic maturity".

Who is the colloquium actually designed for?

  • The Geoecological Seminar is conceived as an information platform for doctoral students, postdoctoral students and professors from the field of geoecology and related subjects, but is also explicitly aimed at students of geoecology and environmental engineering. The course is not tied to a single chair, but interdisciplinary.

What's the point of the colloquium?

  • By regularly attending the geoecological seminar one sees and experiences about 80 guest scientists as well as professionals from industry and consulting in the course of 5 years of study and thus broadens one's horizon. There is also the opportunity to make contacts, e.g. with regard to the preparation of external theses.
  • For some semesters it has been possible to earn credit points according to the ECTS system. To do this, you must attend the colloquium regularly (usually eight times). For a one-semester visit you will receive a certificate for half a (0.5) LP.

How does the colloquium work?

  • The Geoecological Colloquium will take place on Thursday afternoons at 3 pm in the seminar room LK19c.2 of the Institute of Geoecology. The colloquium consists of a 45-minute presentation and a 30-minute discussion. All speakers and moderators are expected to follow this schedule. The speakers are advised in advance to interpret their presentation in a way that is also accessible to students by emphasizing not so much the methodological details as the questions, research approaches and results.

Who is hosting the colloquium?

  • The Geoecological Colloquium is jointly organized by the Institute of Geoecology and the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication of the TU Braunschweig.

Can I suggest interesting speakers or topics?

  • Yes! We are always looking forward to your suggestions. Especially welcome are recognized good speakers who can give lectures on interesting and current topics.

We look forward to your visit and your suggestions!
