Reservation and Check-In

In the student house Masch.Bau, students of TU Braunschweig have various types of study places at their disposal. The study rooms for four or six people are designed for groups; the common room currently has seven individual study places. The common room is currently under development and does not offer a workplace-bound power supply. A family room is available for students with children.

1.) Registration: Students of TU Braunschweig have to register here to use the premises of the Masch.Bau. Prerequisite is the matriculation number and the @tu-braunschweig e-mail address.

2.) The reservation system: Access to the room reservation system is gained via the TU network or via the app Intrakey; the latter is available for Android (4.1 or higher) and iOS (8.1 or higher). The necessary login data were sent by e-mail in the course of the registration.

3.) Search and reserve rooms: In the reservation system, the desired room size, the desired date and the reservation period must be specified. The smallest booking interval is 15 minutes and costs 4 points of use (4-study room), 6 points of use (6-study room) or one point of use (single place in the common room). The cost/usage period is always displayed. A graphical overview informs you about the availability of rooms. Access to the learning rooms is only possible if a reservation has been made and converted into a booking at the check-in terminal in Masch.Bau (see 7.)

4.) Invitations for learning groups: The learning rooms in Masch.Bau are mainly intended for working and learning groups. After the reservation has been made, other people can be invited to share the room - please use the online portal or the app. The points of use (see 10.) can then be distributed equally among all persons. An invitation must be accepted or declined in the online portal; the invited persons must also check in at the chip card terminal for the points sharing to take effect. Invitations for the individual learning places in the common room cannot be issued.

5.) Edit or cancel reservations: A reservation can be edited or the reservation can be cancelled at any time. Invited persons will be informed about the changes by e-mail. Cancellations may incur usage points (see 10.).

6.) Access to Masch.Bau: The Masch.Bau can only be opened with a valid TUcard. A sensor next to the entrance opens the entrance door and grants access to the anteroom with the check-in terminal. An additional sensor grants access to the interior after checking in.

7.) From reservation to booking: Before entering the learning rooms, the reservation must first be converted into a booking. This is done at the chip card reader in the vestibule; select your reservation and confirm your registration. There you will also be informed about the room which will be activated with the booking. After the booking, access to the rooms is possible with the TUcard, just hold the card up to the locking cylinder. When the green LED lights up, you can turn the knob.

8.) Important information on the above mentioned points:

  • Invitations can only be issued if the reservation has not yet been converted into a booking at the chip card terminal. Subsequent invitations cannot be issued (see 4.).
  • Only students of the TU Braunschweig who have previously registered for use can be invited (see 4.).
  • If you have already checked in at the terminal, the reservation can no longer be processed (see 5.)
  • You have access rights to the learning room at the earliest 5 minutes before the reservation starts. Earlier access is not possible (see 7.).
  • For night learners: A reservation beyond midnight until 03:45 am is now possible. If you want to stay longer in Masch.Bau, make another reservation from 04:00 am. Then check in again at the terminal to obtain access rights. You may be assigned a different room in the course of this process.

9.) Lockers: In Masch.Bau there are a total of 56 lockers of different sizes (S, M, XL) available to students. Your TUcard serves as your key; simply hold your card in front of it to open or close a locker. Please remember your locker number.

10.) The point system: Every reservation for study rooms builds up points of use, which influence bookings in advance. The limits for this as well as the costs for cancellations are shown below. The sum of the usage points always takes into account the reservations of the past 90 days. Reservations from the more distant past are not taken into account.

Please note:

  • Learning groups benefit from the fact that they can divide the usage points among themselves (see 4.)
  • Cancellations cause usage points the closer the time of cancellation is to the time of reservation:
    • Cancellation time is more than 144 hours before the reservation time: no points are due.
    • Cancellation time is between 144 hours and 72 hours before the reservation date: You will be credited 75% of the original usage points.
    • Cancellation between 72 hours and 24 hours prior to the reservation: You will be credited 50% of the original usage points.
    • Cancellation time is within 24 hours of the reservation date: You will be credited 25% of the original usage points.
  • The usage point account includes the following limits:
    • up to 200 usage points: Learning rooms can be booked 120 days in advance.
    • up to 400 usage points: Learning rooms can be booked 14 days in advance.
    • up to 600 usage points: Learning rooms can be booked 5 days in advance.
    • more than 600 usage points: Learning rooms can only be booked up to and including the following day.

Individual learning places in the common room cost one point per hour.
