FAQ

Usage of the learning rooms

  • Who may use the learning rooms in the student house Masch.Bau? The usage is open to all students of TU Braunschweig. Prerequisite is the registration for the booking system.
  • What are the tolerance times for delays? The tolerance time is 15 minutes. For example, if a room is reserved for 1:00 p.m. and then not converted into a booking at the chip card terminal on the ground floor by 1:15 p.m. at the latest, the system will automatically cancel the reservation.
  • Can the learning rooms also be used at night? Yes. Please note the following when making a reservation: the end of the reservation can be specified at 03:45 a.m. at the latest. If you want to stay longer, make another reservation starting at 04:00 am the following day. Check in at the chip-card terminal to obtain access rights to a room; you may be assigned to a different study room. It cannot be guaranteed that you'll receive the same room, so don't forget to grab your stuff before checking in.
  • What do I have to consider when leaving the learning rooms? Make sure that you take all your stuff with you. Please report any damage to the equipment in the room to the Head Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Can the period of use be subsequently extended? Once the reservation has been converted into a booking at the chip card terminal and thus the actual use has begun, the period of use cannot be extended. The reservation and booking process must be repeated, maybe a new room will be allocated during this time.
  • Can third parties enter a reserved learning room? Only persons who have checked in at the terminal on the ground floor of Masch.Bau have access rights to a learning room. This applies both to persons who have made a reservation and to those who have been invited to the reservation. Please note: If reservations are made directly after your reservation ending, it may happen that access rights are granted 5 minutes before the start of the reservation.
  • I have locked myself out of my study room. What can I do now? During business hours (Mo.–Fr., 8:00-15:30 hrs) contact the Head Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, call 4040. There are in-house telephones in the corridors of the building. Alternatively, you can contact the student council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering or "die Klappe" on the ground floor of Masch.Bau. If you have locked yourself out, for example at the weekend, there are two possibilities: 1) You wait until someone with a follow-up reservation grants you access to the study room. 2.) Contact someone from your circle of friends who is also registered for the reservation system.  This person then tries to get the follow-up reservation for the same learning room via the reservation system (note in this case: the room allocation is random).
Advantage for learning groups: invited persons who have checked in at the check-in terminal also have access rights to the learning room.

TUcard

  • Why do I need the TUcard? The TUcard serves as a key to Masch.Bau as well as to the learning booths and lockers within the building.
  • I have lost my TUcard. What do I have to do? If you have any problems with your TUcard or if you lose it, please contact us immediately ...
    • personally at the Admissions Office in the Student Service Center
    • by phone at the study service call
    • or by e-mail

User credits

  • What are the credits for? The credits are intended to prevent rooms from being permanently occupied in advance. The amount of the user credit account has no effect on whether or not reservations are generally allowed.
  • When do the accumulated user credits expire? The user credit account always takes into account the reservations of the past 90 days. User credits for reservations dating back further expire.
  • Do user credits accrue for cancellations? This depends on the time of the cancellation:
    • Cancellation time is more than 144 hours before the reservation date: no user credits are accrued.
    • Cancellation between 144 hours and 72 hours prior to the reservation date: 25% of the user credits are due.
    • Cancellation between 72 hours and 24 hours prior to the reservation: 50% of the user credits are due.
    • Cancellation within 24 hours of the reservation: 75% of the user credits are due.
    • Automatic cancellations by the system, e.g. if the reservation is not used, always result in the full number of usage points.
  • Are there limits for reservations in advance? Reservations of study rooms or lockers can be made up to 120 days in advance. Depending on the amount of the user credit account, the following limits apply:
    • less than 200 user credits: bookable 120 days in advance.
    • more than 200 user credits: bookable 14 days in advance.
    • more than 400 user credits: bookable 5 days in advance.
    • more than 600 user credits: can only be booked up to and including the following day.
  • Do the costs for the learning rooms differ? The costs result from the duration of use and the utilization of a room. The costs for a 15-minute reservation (the smallest booking interval) is 4 user credits for a 4-person study room and 6 credits for a 6-person study room. With a maximum number of persons in a learning room as well as point sharing within the learning group, a 4-person study room has as many points of use as a 6-person learning room.
