A key factor in combining your work or studies with family life is effective and reliable childcare. On campus, students and staff of TU Braunschweig can find a crèche for toddlers, flexible daycare for children aged 1-10 years, and holiday play schemes for schoolchildren. In the Braunschweig urban area, various organisations offer a broad range of childcare facilities aimed at children from young toddlers to school-age children. We recommend you find out all you can about the options available in good time from the relevant sources.
In collaboration with the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen student administration, TU Braunschweig runs two childcare facilities with two groups each on Main Campus. In each of the groups, qualified staff care for up to 15 children. Online pre-registration for both daycare centers is done via the City of Braunschweig's Kita-Finder (please see below). Students with children are given priority in the allocation of places.
The Spatzennest nursery is centrally located, near the House of Science. Groups and nursery hours:
Eulen group Monday to Friday from 7.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Pinguine group Monday to Friday from 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Kinder-Werk nursery school Additional childcare places in the Kinder-Werk inter-company nursery school are available primarily to TU Braunschweig staff. Nursery hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested staff can contact the Family Office directly.
The Braunschweig central family services agency “Das FamS” will help you find daycare places. Your child may be looked after in the daycarer’s home, on specially rented premises, or in your own home. Before searching for a place, you can call or visit the agency to discuss a suitable daycare place. Most available places are for children up to the age of three. You can then contact and meet the daycarer and, if applicable, sign a daycare agreement with them.
The organisation of a childcare place in Braunschweig's crèches (for children up to 3 years) and kindergartens (for children from 3 years) is carried out by the central Kita-Finder of the city of Braunschweig. To use it, register for a parent account. This allows you to check the status of the registration procedure (e.g. acceptance or rejection) at any time. The Kita-Finder offers a broad orientation, but does not replace personal contact with the day care centres. It is therefore advisable to visit and get to know the chosen institution. The day care centres in Braunschweig are primarily designed to look after children who live in the city of Braunschweig. Please register your childcare requirements with the local authority responsible for your place of residence. You can access the Kita-Finder at:
The umbrella organisation of parent-run nurseries (Dachverband der Elterninitiativen Braunschweigs e.V., DEB) provides a list of available places and parent-run nursery groups sorted by area. In parent-run nurseries, parents have the right to participate in the care process. You can apply to the facility of your choice directly or submit your application through Braunschweig city council.

For children aged 1-10 years, flexible emergency daycare is available on Main Campus. It is available on an hourly basis from Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 6.30 p.m.; the charge per hour is 1 euro for students and 2 euros for staff. Please note that flexible daycare is not intended to replace regular childcare. You can use it no more than twice a week.
