Places for families at the TU Braunschweig

PLEASE NOTE: The use of the parent-child rooms is currently restricted. Please check our News page for the currently valid access regulations.

At four TU Braunschweig sites, parent-and-child rooms are available to staff and students for
looking after their children during the day. You could use them when your regular childcare is
cancelled, for breastfeeding between lectures, or for parent networking meetings. Students or
staff with children can work here, look after their children, arrange childcare with or meet other
parents for information sharing.

The rooms are equipped with

nappy-changing and sleeping facilities
toys, games and activity sets
seating for breastfeeding or feeding children
a PC work station with internet access and a phone

The parent-and-child rooms are located here:

Main Campus:
Old university building, Pockelsstraße 4, basement, Room -141
Times: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The transponder to the room is now in a key safe right next to the entrance door to the parent-child room. We will inform you of the PIN for the key safe by telephone (0531 391-4536) or e-mail.

North Campus:
Bienroder Weg 97, 1st floor, Room 135
Times: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The key is available from the secretarial office of the Department of Protestant Theology and
Religious Education or from the Equal Opportunity Officer for Department 6.

East Campus:

Times: Monday to Sunday, 24/7
There is one family room for students with children, which has to be booked online. You need
your electronic student ID (TUcard) for access during the booking period.

With the support of Volksbank BraWo, the TUBS und Familie e.V. association has set up a play area for children in the TU Braunschweig forum building. The wooden structure with slide and various play elements is not only intended to serve as a play corner for the youngest children on campus, but also to promote exchange between parents.

For spontaneous use by families and children, from toddlers to primary school age, the Family Office has a handy activity bag available on loan. This contains bricks, books, crayons and paper, jigsaws, and more. The activity bag can be taken out by any member of TU Braunschweig, for use in, for instance, the assembly hall, their institute, the seminar room, or their workplace. For questions or suggestions relating to the content of the activity bag, please contact the Family Office.

You can take out and return the activity bag at these times:

Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to midnight
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Available from the central information desk on the ground floor

In the large refectory hall of Mensa 1, a number of big tables are reserved for families with children.
Some high chairs are also available there. Mensa 2 at Beethovenstraße has several high chairs available. If not in use, they are stored near the checkouts. You can take a chair to the table with you. The checkout staff will be happy to help you. There is also a play area on the ground floor.

In student restaurants run by Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen, children up to the age of 10 years are eligible for a “Piepmampf” child portion costing 1 euro, provided

their mother or father is a student or member of staff;
they are accompanied by their mother or father, who also buys a meal;
they have their “Piepmampf“ card with them.
