About DrawnTogether

English version

The DrawnTogether Exhibition, an initiative by Dr. Tatia Gruenbaum (Visiting Researcher TU Braunschweig), in partnership with Bergen-Belsen Memorial and funded by the Hertie Stiftung, showcases a carefully curated collection of picture books sharing Jewish lived experiences during the Holocaust as well as stories of friendship, allyship and hope.

Aimed at children aged 8-14, the exploration of each picture book is supported by a reading guide. The exhibition aims to offer a non-traumatic introduction to the Holocaust beyond the school curriculum, allowing children to view lives that might be different from their own and empathise with the characters. Empathy combined with understanding may foster the social courage needed to safeguard Jewish life in the future.

The selected picture books vary in theme and illustrative style. All titles are available in English, with some in additional languages such as Dutch, German, French and Italian. The name DrawnTogether, written as one word, reflects the connection between text and image, and symbolises the combined strength of friendship, allyship, and hope in times of darkness.
