Industrial Robots

General information

Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Dröder
Assistant: Anna Marie Opolka, M. Sc.
Start of lecture and exercise: Winter semester 2026/2027, further information on StudIP

Classification: Master studies
Frequency: WS

Qualification objectives

Students learn to distinguish between serial and parallel structures and to divide robots into main and secondary axes. Knowledge of workspaces, application criteria and designs is taught.

Industrieroboter

In addition, students gain an overview of the components required for the robot, such as drives, sensors and measuring systems. Furthermore, students are able to demonstrate and calculate kinematic and dynamic models of various robots. They learn the control approaches and device structures required for control, as well as textual and graphical interactive forms of programming. This lecture provides students with an introduction to the interdisciplinary and comprehensive technical product of industrial robots, which are an essential subsystem of a complex manufacturing environment.

Content

  • Introduction: History, robot classifications, areas of application
  • Structural development: Degrees of freedom, joints, serial and parallel structures, robot design
  • Programming: Programming methods, programming languages (especially KRL)
  • Kinematics: Element transformations, kinematic robot model, calculation methods, singularities
  • Dynamics and position control: Dynamic robot model, calculation of drive forces and torques, position control methods
  • Control: Motion generation, device technology design, sensor integration
