Advanced Field Theory for QT and Microelectronics Engineering (AFT; listed in Stud.IP as Advanced Applications of Field Theory) deepens electromagnetic field theory beyond the introductory lectures and builds the bridge to quantum mechanics and microelectronics. Starting from the potential formalism, dynamic fields, radiation and approximation methods are treated before field theory is applied to Schrödinger theory and to design questions in microelectronics.
The lecture is a compulsory course in the Master Microelectronics Engineering and is taught in English.
Upon completion of the module, students are able to explain the structure of Maxwell's equations in differential form, derive the fully dynamic field solution of the Hertzian dipole from it, and justify idealised approximate solutions depending on the application. They can analyse basic electrical engineering arrangements with field-theoretical methods and abstract the essential details, select and apply suitable solution methods, for example for energy problems, Poynting's theorem and fields varying in time and space, integrate electromagnetic interactions into the Schrödinger equation and solve elementary problems in this context. They are familiar with applications of field theory in antenna design.
