Procedure

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT A PHD-PROCEDURE

After submitting your thesis your application will be accepted by the chairman of PhD of the Faculty of Life Sciences, so that your PhD-procedure can start officially. Your thesis will be sent to all members of your committee.

Your reviewers have to accept and grade your thesis and have to send their written reports to the Faculty. As soon as we received all reports, you will get the so-called "Laufzettel" by email: With this document you make the binding appointment for your oral defence / disputation! From the day you receive the Laufzettel, you have to add 4 weeks to get the earliest possible date of your oral defence (with the "Laufzettel" you'll get further and detailed information by email).

After your oral defense you have to publish your accepted thesis - the easiest, fastest and cheapest way would be an online-publication at the library (UB). But you may also choose a publishing house or print your thesis by yourself. You will get detailed information on that after your defense. The sooner you publish your approved version of your thesis, the sooner you can receive your PhD-certificate and you may use the doctoral title 'Dr. rer. nat'.

Please read the instructions for publishing an approved dissertation on the University Library website in advance!

Please note: the whole PhD-procedure takes at least 3 months from handing in your thesis to receiving your PhD-certificate!
