Short profile

Vizepräsident f. Forschung und Internationales

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Henke has been the Head of the Institute for Electrical Machines, Drives and Trains (IMAB) at the Technical University of Braunschweig since April 2012. In addition to teaching courses on the design and implementation of electric machines and drives for mobile and industrial applications, he is involved in research and innovation in the field of electromobility, as well as in the modelling, design and control of electric aircraft propulsion systems within the core research area “Mobility”. His research focuses primarily on interdisciplinary collaborative projects with national and international partners, e.g.within the SE2A cluster of excellence.

After completing his degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Paderborn, he worked there as a research assistant and obtained his PhD in 2002. In 2003, he moved to Volkswagen Group Research in Wolfsburg. There, he worked on the design and prototyping of extremely high-power-density electrical energy converters in cooperation with international research partners. From 2006, he led research activities on the design and control of innovative electric drives for electric vehicles.

The key priorities for the coming years include:

  • Strengthening internationally networked research activities, initiating and supporting further formats such as Collaborative Research Centres and graduate schools,
  • Further developing the framework conditions for visible and effective research, establishing the Wolfsburg Campus
  • Expanding transdisciplinary research in cooperation with non-university research partners
  • Coordinating international activities at TU Braunschweig as a cross-cutting priority
  • Strengthening the welcoming culture
