Sub Project 9: Structure of the Management System and Data Base

The subproject 9 "structure of the management system including database" (engineers for water, environment and data processing IWUD GmbH, Höxter) has a cross divisional function for the entire project. It is intended to provide an effective model-based expert system where the main components are the software platform, the database, a model control unit, analysis and display routines. At the end of the project, the system will be available in a version that contains a parameterized results of model applications for level 1 (past to present) and level 2 (future without measures). Integrated model applications will be controled individually or in a linked mode. For applications several input data sets will be integrated into the expert system. To meet the project objectives, the expert system is structured in a way, that relevant data that are collected and processed independently of one another, can be acquired centrally. This data - as a part of a system data base - will be made available to the user by a unifom interface thus be available for calculations within the system. Procedures will be designed to control the different model systems of the sub-projects and to couple them where required. On this basis, data and model results from (coupled) calculations will be presented for the current situation and the forecast for different situations (without protection and environmental technologies). The proposed management system is a dynamic system. It will be structured so that already realised simulations can be stored and visualized. The system will also enable the user to control single or coupled simulation software. Parameterized results of precalculated variants can be read out directly. Individual applications can be defined by qualified users and be processed by the system. The great experience of editors with regard to software platforms in water management with the involvement of open-source products are of great benefit for the SP 9. In this way, the software costs for the platform of the management system are minimized during the project period and later in the application in Viet Nam.
