Research profile

Our research focuses on the integrated consideration of water quantity and water quality for surface and groundwater in the context of hydrological extremes and associated risks. We seek to deepen our understanding of the interactions between hydrological processes and human interventions.

For this goal, we develop methods, simulation models and tools for the sustainable and flexible management of future water resources systems.

  • Integrated modelling systems (meteorology, hydrology, hydrodynamics, channel networks) for water resources management and risk analysis of urban and rural zones.
  • Coupled eco-hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling systems for simulating water quality of inland waters and estuaries.
  • Management systems for control and reduction of water pollution in emerging and developing countries.
  • Climate impact research for water resources and water quality of river basins.
  • Operational early warning systems for floods and water pollution.
  • Operational systems for online operation and optimization of storage cascades.
  • Use of remote sensing data in integrated model systems.
