Tips on finding accomodation in the Braunschweig region

For all international students who are new to Braunschweig, the International House organizes a Welcome Week at the beginning of the semester. This programme is an excellent opportunity for you to get to know the university and make new friends.

In addition to information events and tutorials, it includes an international welcome event. Plus, you have the opportunity to explore the campus and the city of Braunschweig.

Welcome Week Sommer Semester 2026

Besides Welcome Week, online info sessions on different topics, such as social life and finances in Germany, are being offered. The remaining sessions for this semester are:

To ensure that you are well prepared to start your Data Science studies, a Welcome Meeting for all first-semester students will take place on Tuesday, 07.04.2026.

Program points:

1. 13:15 - 13:30 (CET) Welcome: Lecturers, faculty, and math/computer science sections
2. 13:30 - 14:30 (CET) Formal presentation/introduction of the study program
3. 14:30 (CET) Experience reports (student council) / question and answer session, etc.

In the first week of the semester, the dates/lectures of the Ramp Up Phase for all Data Science first-semester students will take place jointly (mathematics & computer science content). Kick-off will be the Welcome Meeting on 07.04.2026.

Please note that only courses from the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics are listed. Further courses of other departments, e.g. in the application area, can be found in TUconnect.

Registration for courses is always done via StudIP or via the respective institute.

At the beginning of their studies, each student is assigned a mentor by the Data Science Examination Committee from the university teaching staff of the Department of Computer Science or the Department of Mathematics.

The mentor's task is to set individual study priorities together with the student. The focus here is on subject-specific counselling. During the course of the degree programme, students have optional meetings with the mentor to discuss the progress of their studies.

The announcement of the mentor assignment is made by the study program coordination/the examination office by mail to the students. A consultation can be held between the individual students and the mentor at the beginning of the first semester.  Group appointments with the mentor are also often offered.

A change of the mentor is possible at any time at the request of one of the participants (student and mentor).

You have the option of studying part of your Curriculum, doing an internship or research in another country – an absolutely unique experience.

The brochure Don't Panic from the Gauss IT Center of the TU Braunschweig (GITZ) briefly and concisely explains how you can, for example, access the university's Wi-Fi (eduroam), check your e-mails from the TU Braunschweig e-mail address, print scripts, register for courses via Stud.IP or view your previous achievements in the form of a grade report on TUconnect.

Since you need your TUBS-ID (y-number) not only to use the IT services, but also, for example, to register for and participate in exams (e.g. via TUconnect), please do not forget to activate it promptly!
