Broadband signals play a fundamental role in information technology for the transmission of data. In the future, ever larger data volumes can be expected, which will further increase the requirements for maximum transmission rates of optical systems.
At present, DACs represent a significant system limitation in the transmission of optical data. The HIGHDAC project pursues the approach of using orthogonal sampling to upmix several DAC output signals to a signal with a bandwidth of 135 GHz, with 270 G/s signals. With HIGHDAC, a significantly higher data rate in optical transmission is to be realized through a broadband DAC output signal. This can significantly advance the current “state of the art” in optical communications technology.
