Interlibrary Loan

Publications that are not available in Braunschweig can be ordered via interlibrary loan. You need a valid user card of the UB Braunschweig and a GBV interlibrary loan account (Account activation at the circulation desk).

Interlibrary Loan Services at University Library

  • Students of TU Braunschweig receive 3 interlibrary loan credit units per semester free of charge. Please register for the free vouchers at the circulation desk.
  • The fee of an interlibrary loan order is EUR 1.50. You have to pay the amount in advance in cash at the circulation desk.
  • Please note, that one credit unit will be debited per order, even if the order is not successful.
  • Only for Institutes of TU Braunschweig: Form for ordering interlibrary loans credit units (in German only)

Order Processing

  • Interlibrary loans are provided for research and teaching as well as for further education and training. Publications that are available in stores at a low price (less than 15 €) are excluded from the interlibrary loan system. Further details can be found in the Regulations on Interlibrary Loan Transactions (in German only).
  • When placing an order, please note that the delivery time for an interlibrary loan item takes at least 1 week.
  • When you search in our catalogue (under the "tab" entitled "Other libraries") you will often find a link "Check orderability via interlibrary loan". Follow this link or go directly to the GBV Union Catalogue (GVK) to place an order.
  • Your ordered publication will be delivered to Braunschweig University Library.
  • A tip: If you need a book that the library does not stock or if there are too few copies of a title, you are welcome to submit a literature proposal.

Notification and Loaning

  • You will be informed via e-mail as soon as the publication is available for you at the circulation desk.
  • You can also see in your user account whether an interlibrary loan delivery has arrived (the title of the book is "Interlibrary loan/order number" with the loan status "available for collection at the lending desk").
  • The loan period is determined by the supplying library (usually it is 4 weeks) and cannot be extended independently. If necessary, please apply for an extension at the circulation desk a few days before the loan period expires.
  • Copies of articles are intended to remain with you. Books have to be returned at the end of the loan period at the circulation desk.
