Mandate The University Library (UB) provides the Technische Universität Braunschweig with literature, media and information, is a central learning location for students, imparts information competence, supports scientists in Open Access publishing, safeguards cultural heritage and enriches the cultural diversity on campus and in the city with exhibitions and lectures.
History It was founded in 1748 as a library of the Collegium Carolinum and is thus one of the oldest libraries of a technical university in Germany. Its historical core originates from the famous Blankenburg library of the Duke Ludwig Rudolf von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1671-1735). In the mid-1960s the Braunschweig University Library was expanded and modernised to become the largest library in the region.
The library organizes a lecture series and organizes about 5 - 6 exhibitions per year, in which important or interesting parts of the collection are made accessible and presented to the user. Current topics and research results from TU institutes are also presented. Furthermore, younger artists are offered the opportunity for exhibitions.
