Through a variety of offerings for students, the "Was mit Medien" module fosters competencies related to digital literacy and future skills within the realm of transferable skills development.
Chatting, posting selfies, reading the news, or attending online lectures—we engage with media constantly, anytime and anywhere. The ability to understand and effectively utilize media in everyday life constitutes a vital competency across all spheres of life. Diverse media usage is an integral part of daily routine—not only in one's private life but also within the academic environment. In this online course, students are given the opportunity to explore perspectives on the modern media landscape that are grounded in media theory, and to apply these insights both analytically—through critical reflection—and practically in their daily lives. Methodologically, students can expect a varied mix of texts, videos, podcasts, web-based assignments, self-assessments, discussion contributions, and much more. The self-paced nature of the learning units offers students maximum scheduling flexibility over the course of the three-semester duration.
Since the 2021/22 winter semester, all students have had the option to complete this online course for either 2 or 3 CP.
Registration and participation may begin at any time—even during the semester—throughout the entire duration of the course.

"Future Skills" encompass key competencies essential for living, learning, and working in a digitized world. In the online course of the same name, students are introduced to digital tools, methods, and theories relevant to their academic studies and future careers. Guided by the "4Cs" model of learning, the course teaches and strengthens competencies in the areas of communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. The course provides a space for students to apply Future Skills methods and theories in practice, as well as to learn how to use digital tools and reflect on their usage.

Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming an increasingly common part of our everyday lives—and, consequently, of our academic studies. An online course provides the theoretical foundations of AR and VR, which can then be practically tested and experienced during a dedicated excursion day at "The Basement" within the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media (GEI). In this way, the potential and limitations of these applications—for use in academic studies and the professional world alike (as well as the integration of AI)—are brought into focus and critically examined.

AI is a ubiquitous presence in both our daily lives and our academic studies. At the same time, working with AI tools is neither self-explanatory nor free of risk. In this in-person seminar, participants will become acquainted with the Gauss IT Center’s AI Toolbox by trying out and playfully testing its various tools. Practical, real-world examples will demonstrate how AI tools can be utilized effectively—both for academic coursework and for future professional careers—while also highlighting their respective limitations.

Communicating, playing, and learning across a wide variety of digital spaces have become an integral part of our daily lives. A distinct variant of these digital spaces consists of virtual worlds—environments that simulate physical learning and meeting spaces within a 2D interface directly in a web browser, facilitating interactions via video conferencing and chat. At TU Braunschweig, just such an online platform is currently being piloted as a virtual campus. This campus will be accessible for exploration during the University:Future Festival, offering an opportunity for critical engagement with the potential of virtual teaching and learning spaces.

Co-Working? Isn't that just a fancy Instagram trend? Or another term for uninspired group work? And why another group work session anyway? Do I even need it for my professional future?
If you've asked yourself these or similar questions about our course title, you're probably one of those students who sometimes find group work at university to be annoying. Sure, group work can be quite nerve-racking. But they are still important for every degree programme sooner or later. When they succeed, they can bring success on very different levels, open unexpected perspectives and improve results.
In our course, we take a critical look at typical challenges and prejudices about group work. At the same time, we will give ourselves time to reflect on team dynamics and our own roles in a group. Together, we will look for new ways to make teamwork fun, inspiring and valuable. To do this, we ask experts from the world of work, experiment with tools and explore the limits of our comfort zones.

Oriented to the 4K model of learning, competences in the areas of communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking are discussed and strengthened. The course offers opportunities to apply the methods and theories on future skills in a practical setting and to learn and reflect on the use of digital tools.

Working in a team, presenting, visualising, communicating inter-culturally, working scientifically, managing projects, and dealing with data and copyright are all skills that are not just important in the field of engineering, but also in other fields and in later professional life. In these sessions, alternating experts provide background information and tools on various topics. Part of each unit is a practice-oriented task that is worked on in a self-learning phase between the online seminars, practising the use of the presented tools and applying and consolidating theoretical content.

Digital Literacy Certificate for Students
Finding one's way in a digital world, being able to fully exploit the potential of media, and being prepared for the working world of tomorrow with future skills - the term digital literacy encompasses all of these different aspects.
Since the winter semester 2021/22, students have the opportunity to obtain a certificate for their competence acquisition in the areas of media, information, and digital transformation. The certificate is aimed at students of all disciplines at TU Braunschweig and takes place as part of the courses in the interdisciplinary qualification (pool).
