Information for students

"Deutschlandstipendium" at Technische Universität Braunschweig

The scholarship programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) was launched in the summer semester 2011.

How does it work?

The Deutschlandstipendium is a matching funds program. The university acquires sponsors who donate half of the scholarship amount for one year. The other half is co-financed by the federal government. The funding period is two semesters and the funding amount for students is 300.00 euros per month.

Award criteria

The "Stipendienprogramm-Gesetz"( scholarship programme law) clearly states that universities have to award scholarships first and foremost due to "talent and academic performance". Social commitment, a strong sense of (social) responsibility or challenging personal circumstances may also be taken into consideration. The scholarship is awarded without consideration of personal or parental income.

Selection of scholarship holders at TU Braunschweig

Committees consisting of members of the TU Braunschweig support the selection process. Decisions are first of all based on your written online application. In some cases the committees also invite applicants for a personal interview to make a final decision.

Application period

The scholarships are awarded in the winter semester. The application phase for the academic year 2024/25 will take place from May 27, 2024 to June 24, 2024 (23:59).

Is the "Deutschlandstipendium" available for students from all TU Braunschweig programmes?

Basically yes. Each sponsor can preset certain programmes and the university has to honor those wishes. However, the scholarship programme law states that at least 1/3 of all scholarships have to be available without any preset wishes from sponsors. This means all students, regardless if they study in a bachelor or master programme at the TU Braunschweig, may apply. There is no guarantee that scholarships are awarded in each programme.

What else should I know?

As a scholarship holder of a "Deutschlandstipendium" you cannot be doubley funded. This means that you may only accept one scholarship at a time. If you have been awarded a "Deutschlandstipendium" you may not accept other scholarships or funds.

Termination

The scholarship will be terminated on the day of the last exam, exmatriculation / graduation or at the end of the award; whichever is earlier.
